Farm Graduate Programme

The XLVets Graduate Development Programme for Farm Vets brings up to 12 graduates together to work as part of a team over the duration of the course and to complete a project together. Plenty of opportunity is given to share experiences and develop contacts; each graduate can also choose to be supported by a mentor from within XLVets, to help strengthen shared learning across the group.

The 8 day course includes exciting and innovative core modules designed to achieve excellence in practice.

Module 1: Survival Skills

Trainers: Phil Alcock, Dave Gilbert, Ben Strugnell, Driver Skills, Ian Stewart & Duncan Berkshire
Venue: North Yorkshire
Included: Survival Skills, Mastering Medicines, Driver Skills, Practical Pathology, Pigs Post Mortem & Poultry Post Mortem

Module 2: Dairy Days

Trainer: Mark Burnell, Andy Adler
Venue: Dorset
Included: Calving Cows, Down Cows and Surgery
The Farm: Transition Management, The Cow: Lameness Identification and First Aid Treatment

Module 3: Beef and Sheep Skills

Trainer: Lee-Anne Oliver
Venue: Northumberland
Included: Key topics to diagnose, treat and prevent for the Beef & Sheep farmer; infertility and tightening the calving pattern; growth rates and production

Additional modules are available to give more depth to learning.
