What is Different About This Course?
This is only for members of an XLVets Practice.

  • XLVets offers all of its members a supportive community that share common values to enable collaboration. Our vision is by working together we can achieve so much more, and this starts the minutes that you join an XLVets practice from University and underpins the Farm Graduate Development Programme.
  • The 8 day course includes exciting and innovative core modules designed to achieve excellence in practice, they are compulsory to attend, to help you build a strong and collaborative peer network on the first day of the programme and throughout your career. We encourage graduates to keep in touch in between modules to keep learning.
  • To help Graduates develop their skills, confidence and experience even further, the XLVet Graduate Programme offers participants the chance to be mentored throughout their first years in practice.

Briefly the course comprises

A five module course for graduates who have qualified within the last two years and are working in an XLVets practice.

Module 1: Survival Skills
  • 17th, 18th & 19th April 2018. 2.5 days
  • Trainers: Phil Alcock, Dave Gilbert, Driver Skills, Ian Stewart & Duncan Berkshire
  • Venue: North Yorkshire
  • Included: Survival Skills, Mastering Medicines, Driver Skills, Pigs Post Mortem & Poultry Post Mortem.

    Module 2: Dairy Days
  • 22nd- 24th May 2018. 3 days
  • Trainer: Mark Burnell, Andy Adler
  • Venue: Dorset
  • Included: Calving Cows, Down Cows and Surgery The Farm: Transition Management, The Cow: Lameness Identification and First Aid Treatment.

    Module 3: Beef and Sheep Skills and Practical Pathology
  • 19th, 20th & 21st June 2018 2.5 days
  • Trainer: Lee-Anne Oliver & Ben Strugnell
  • Venue: Northumberland
  • Included: Key topics to diagnose, treat and prevent for the Beef & Sheep farmer; infertility and tightening the calving pattern; growth rates and production.
